Cats, cats & more cats!

For the last couple of months I've been volunteering at a local no-kill shelter. I photograph the cats and kittens that are available for adoption and post them on the shelter's website. It's been a lot of fun! It's also been really hard to come home empty handed as so many of them will make great companions! Here's a sampling of some felines that are still looking for a forever home. You can check out the shelter's website here.

Love locks

Lovers write their names on brass locks like these and throw the key into the Arno River to show how strong their love is. It's the American equivalent of carving your initials into a tree.

Ponte Vecchio Bridge

Just got back from a whirlwind trip to Italy! Spanning the Arno River in Firenze (Florence), this bridge is a mere 665 years old!

Leo & Mya

If you've read the book "Marley and Me" you have some idea of what these two labrador retrievers are like. Mya, the younger of the two and still growing up, is learning the navigate the ways of the world. Leo, the mature one, does his best to teach her what he can, but she just wants to learn all on her own. Add some water to the craziness and all mayhem breaks loose. By the time I was done with this photo shoot, I was soaked from head to toe!

Purple

I'm not sure what kind of flowers these are, but we found them in several flower beds on the campus.

Bentley

Just like Honey from last week's blog post, Bentley is also a rescue dog. His owners have only had him for a couple of months and he is adjusting well. He too wasn't sure of me at first, but a few chicken treats and he was over it! He followed me everywhere which tells me he will do just fine in his new life. Bentley is a bichon frise.

Honey

Honey is a rescue who found her new home through a cocker spaniel rescue group. No one knows what her previous life was like, but she certainly had some bad experiences. When I first met Honey, she would scream at me until she realized I wasn't going to hurt her. It took a few days, lots of walks and some treats, but she now runs and jumps up on me when I go over to visit her. Sometimes rescue dogs have a lot to overcome, but many of them go on and become great companions.

Old Main Tower

On July 24th, I participated in my first ever Scott Kelby photowalk. This event takes place worldwide and the walk I led took place on the campus of the Pennsylvania State University. Today is the first in a series of images from this walk. I had a great time and met some new friends!

The water cooler

Horsin' around, these assateague ponies were hoping someone would disobey the rules and turn on the water spigot.
