Waterworks building

When I moved to the Philly area 3 years ago, the first thing I did was to buy a digital SLR camera. Having grown up in rural central PA, going to the city was a bit intimidating for me. But I did muster up the courage to come to the waterworks building which I did regularly as I got settled into my new home. It was here that I began learning how to use my new camera and reestablish my passion for photography, which I lost somewhere between starting a business and becoming an independent adult, oh, some 15 years ago. With my time limited here in the Philly area before I move back "home", I thought it would be fitting to revisit the waterworks building and do one more photo shoot. This, for me, is an opportunity to see how much my photography skills have improved over the last 3 years.

Today's post is my black and white version of the waterworks building. My next post will be the color version of the same image. I like both versions but for different reasons. Perhaps you have an opinion?

Philadelphia!

It's called the city of Brotherly love and for 3 years it has been my home. Last weekend a bunch of my photo buds got together to shoot the skyline as the sun was setting. This has been on my to-do list ever since I moved to the area but never got around to it until now. But it was well worth the wait!

This is an hdr image. I've only had this program for a couple of months and I'm still learning how to use it. I love all details you get when creating an hdr image, like the clouds in this image. Though I remember them being there, I don't remember them being this dramatic.

Barnegat Lighthouse

This is the stairwell to the lighthouse located on Long Beach Island. I liked this particular image of all the ones I took in the stairwell because of the light on the brick wall replicating the pattern of the stairs.

Phoebe

Last weekend I went to Baltimore to visit with some good friends. Their daughter Phoebe loved having her photo taken so I created this diptych of her, a first among many other firsts for me in this blog image.

Brave Soldiers

Decorated over the memorial day weekend, these are the gravestones of more brave soldiers. I believe these are World War II veterans.
