Barney
This is one of two cats I share my home with. Barney, almost 17, is completely deaf. He has a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde personality...one moment he is sweet and affectionate, the next you are wiping blood from the wound he just gave you. As he's gotten older, he's mellowed quite a bit. Though I've lived with him for several years, I don't take many photos of him. I have to admit his being deaf poses some challenges.

Sisters
A year ago I posted a photo of my nephew Sean which was taken on his birthday. It's hard to believe he is another year older. Not only has he grown up, but so have I. Well, maybe I didn't grow up, but I did grow as a photographer. This past weekend was Sean's birthday party and comparing the photos I took yesterday to those I took a year ago, really shows how much my work has improved in the last 12 months. One thing that hasn't changed is Sean's unwillingness to have his picture taken.
Last year I spent a great deal of time trying to get the kids to pose for me. This year I didn't even try. Instead I followed them around, and while we played games I snapped images of them. I came away with far more keepers using this strategy. Though I captured some images of Sean, since he spent most of his time hiding or running away from me, many came out blurred or were shot from far away. His sisters, Emily and Riley however, didn't mind me taking their photos.

Burst of flavor
The challenge...I recently joined the KCNet camera club in Clinton county. Every month they have a challenge. The rules are simple, you can submit 2 images but they have to be taken in a 4 week period thus the members are working on the same challenge at the same time. The challenge for March was zooming. This was a little difficult for me as it forced me to think outside of my comfort zone. I tend to have a realist perspective, abstract images do not come easily to me. My first thought was zooming on carnival rides, but where do you find a carnival in the dead of winter? I just bought a bag of jelly beans and immediately the idea came to me...a kaleidoscope of color with these yummy easter treats.

Angus
Usually photographing dogs is much easier than photographing cats. But in the case of Angus and Nuke the opposite was true. And yes, those are their real names! Nuke, short for Nanook, ran and hid everytime I got the camera out. It didn't matter whether it was a cell phone camera or anything else. He wanted nothing to do with it. For all the begging and pleading I did, I got not one single photo of him...nada, zilch. I've never met a dog that was that terrified of a camera!
Angus on the other hand hammed it up for me. Most cats you simply can't ask to sit and then make noises so they will look right at the camera. Angus turned our adventure into a game. As long as I had his favorite feather toy and rolled upside down right along beside him, he would do just about anything I wanted him to!

Hopewell Furnace
I finally got around to processing my images from the chester county camera club's outing to Hopewell Furnace a couple of weeks ago. I discovered this historic national site by accident year ago and have been wanting to get back for another visit. I didn't get as many good images as I hoped, but as always, I had a great time hanging out with all my photobuds!
